Within the framework of C40 Cities, the network that brings together cities such as Los Angeles, London and Bogotá to fight against climate change, Buenos Aires will lead on the issue of new urban spatiality, a key issue in overcoming the health crisis.
The Mayor and Vice President of C40, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, participated in a new meeting of the Steering Committee of C40 - the urban network that brings together the most important cities in the world to fight against climate change. During the meeting, he confirmed that Buenos Aires will lead a working group on new urban spatiality post COVID-19.
"It is essential to move towards more resilient, sustainable and inclusive cities. It is key to promote cities that are designed for people, with sustainable mobility options that prioritize pedestrians and bicycles, and offer a better quality of life," said Rodríguez Larreta.
Mayors Eric Garcetti (Los Angeles), Claudia López Hernández (Bogota), Sadiq Khan (London), Mxolisi Kaunda (Durban), Frank Jensen (Copenhagen) and Anna König Jerlmyr (Stockholm) also participated in the meeting.
Mayor Rodríguez Larreta serves as Regional Vice President for Latin America of C40, a position he shares with the Mayor of Bogota, Claudia López Hernández. "With Bogota, we have doubled down on our commitment to lead climate action in the region, and to drive member and non-member cities of the C40 network towards a green recovery", he added.

To this end, Buenos Aires and Bogota are leading the "Dialogue for climate action in Latin American cities in the Covid-19 context", consisting of a series of virtual meetings. The first one will be on October 21, where public officials responsible for the implementation of the climate change agendas in Latin America will initiate a regional dialogue on Climate Action Plans. The second meeting, scheduled for November 12, will bring together the mayors of the region and will include the participation of the Mayor of Los Angeles and President of C40, Eric Garcetti.
C40 is a group of cities committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and adapting strategies to climate change. It currently connects almost 100 cities around the world representing a population of 700 million people. Buenos Aires has been a member of C40 since 2009.
